Theoretical calculation method for the thermal neutron detection efficiency of pie-shaped boron-coated straw neutron detector
Abstract
Abstract The pie-shaped boron-coated straw neutron detector (BCS) is a new type of 3 He replacement neuron detector. A theoretical calculation method is presented to obtain the thermal neutron detection efficiency of the pie-shaped BCS. Firstly, the structure of the pie-shaped BCS is decomposed into plane and arc. Then the calculation formulas for thermal neutron detection efficiency of the planar B 4 C coating and arc B 4 C coating are obtained. Finally, the thermal neutron detection efficiency of the pie-shaped BCS can be calculated. Compared with that of Monte Carlo simulation, the result of theoretical calculation is in good agreement. The results show that the theoretical calculation result of the thermal neutron detection efficiency of the pie-shaped BCS are reliable and the theoretical method can replace Monte Carlo simulation to quickly calculate the thermal neutron intrinsic detection efficiency of boron-lined neutron detectors and reduce the time of detector design and optimization.
