A compact permanent magnet electron beam ion trap for spectroscopy of highly charged ions
Abstract
Abstract A compact electron beam ion trap (EBIT) has been developed, incorporating a permanent magnet in a vacuum chamber held at an ultra-high vacuum of 1 × 10 -9 Torr. A combination of the precisely positioned permanent magnet and soft iron is employed to generate a 0.56 T magnetic field at the center of the drift tube. The electron beam features adjustable current and energy, with ranges from 1 to 10 mA and 0.1 to 5.0 keV, respectively. To assess the performance of the EBIT, optical spectroscopy was conducted on fluorine-like argon ions.
