Identification of ketakong material in memarong joints through greenship material resource & cycle parameters: a preliminary study on the potential of sustainable local building material
Abstract
Abstract The indigenous community of Orang Lom in Air Abik Hamlet, Bangka, utilizes ketakong plants as binding ropes in traditional buildings, a practice that reflects local wisdom in the use of sustainable materials. This study aims to identify the sustainability aspects of ketakong material using the Material Resource and Cycle (MRC) parameters. The method used is based on the Greenship parameters for New Buildings Version 1.2. Although the evaluation results show that ketakong material does not yet fully meet Greenship standards, its sustainability potential is found in its non-CFC properties, relatively fast growth cycle (3-4 years), and proximity of source locations. Therefore, it is recommended to conduct environmentally friendly material certification and detailed cost calculations so that its sustainability points can be improved. Additional comprehensive investigations are required, particularly those that explore the potential implementation of LCA in subsequent research.
