Plastic waste handling uses variations in the rotation of the crusher shaft with helical blades
Abstract
Abstract Plastic waste is a type of non-organic waste produced using chemicals as the primary constituent material, but it is non-renewable and complicated to decompose naturally. Plastic waste can be utilized through the 3R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). The 3R concept can be the right solution for using plastic waste. In the recycling stage, plastic waste is shredded to produce plastic pellets or shredded plastic, which becomes the raw material for factories that produce plastic goods. The plastic waste shredding machine is made with machine dimensions of 700 mm long, 330 mm wide, and 1070 mm high. The machine was driven by a combustion engine with a power of 7 horsepower, utilizing a pulley and belt transmission with a 1:2 ratios. The shredder machine used four helical blades. The dimensions of the blade are 300 mm long, 50 mm wide, and 5 mm thick, with a blade cutting angle of 35 degrees. The maximum size of the shredded plastic is 10 mm. The research results obtained show that the production capacity of the machine at shaft rotation of 1100-1200 rpm, 1200-1300 rpm, and 1300-1400 rpm is 4,099 kg/hour, 4,895 kg/hour, and 5,487 kg/hour, respectively. The production efficiency of the machine at shaft rotation of 1100-1200 rpm, 1200-1300 rpm, and 1300-1400 rpm is 64.20%, 73.13%, and 78.46%, respectively.
