Knowledge management as a catalyst for farmers’ skill development and agricultural electrification adoption to mitigate water and soil pollution
Abstract
Abstract Knowledge management serves as a strategic bridge, connecting farmers’ learning, technological adoption, and environmental sustainability. Agricultural electrification offers cleaner and more efficient solutions for irrigation and soil management; however, farmers often lack the necessary skills and knowledge to apply these solutions effectively. This study employed a structured knowledge management approach, focusing on the acquisition, sharing, and application of knowledge, among 150 purposively selected farmers in Boyolali, Sragen, Karanganyar, and Klaten. A pre-test and post-test design evaluated behavioral and technical changes using the Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank test. Results indicated significant improvements in farmers’ ability to operate electrified irrigation systems, optimize water use, and mitigate soil degradation. Knowledge-based learning cycles transformed attitudes toward environmental protection and strengthened the adoption of sustainable electrification. The findings demonstrated that knowledge management interventions could enhance human capital, encourage innovation, and promote long-term ecological responsibility in agribusiness.
