Abstract

Abstract Global oil demand is projected to increase from 99.6 mb/d in 2022 to 116 mb/d by 2045, with growth continuing steadily until around 2035. This substantial increase in demand for oil and natural gas necessitates the development of offshore platforms and processes, including onshore installations. A frequently executed yet perilous operation on topside installations is the lifting operation. This study aims to compare methodologies for assessing the risk of topside lifting operations. The methods compared employed Job Safety Analysis (JSA). Mitigation strategies employed to mitigate these risks included the following: the implementation of Toolbox Talks, the inspection of equipment, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), the suspension of operations during inclement weather, and adherence to SOPs.
