Abstract

Abstract This research aims to measure the characteristics of the pod and seeds from gamma-irradiated Desmanthus virgatus M1 that are tolerant to high saline soil (8.4 dS/m). This research uses 36 Desmanthus virgatus M1 mutant line candidates at 71 weeks after planting. This research is descriptive in nature and does not use an experimental design. The data obtained were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Pods and seeds with a concentration index of more than one (>1,00) indicate that specific pods and seeds have superior characteristics. A high variety in pods and seeds characteristics are produced by the following parameters: number of pods per plant, pod length, number of seeds per pod, and number of seeds per plant. Mutant line candidates of Desmanthus virgatus M1 with the best characteristics according to the concentration index are shown by candidates that are exposed to 300 Gray of radiation. A total of 18 superior candidates are discovered, namely GDV100.2, GDV100.3, GDV100.4, GDV200.1, GDV200.2, GDV200.3, GDV200.9, GDV300.1, GDV300.3, GDV300.4, GDV300.6, GDV300.7, GDV300.8, GDV300.9, GDV300.10, GDV300.12, GDV300.13, and GDV500.2. There are three mutant line candidates with the best characteristics, which is GDV300.1, GDV300.6, and GDV200.3.
