Abstract

Interactions between radiation and matter that relate to polarization processes are expanded upon, including the dielectric function, skin depth, and surface impedance. The Fresnel equations for reflection and transmission at a dielectric boundary are derived, and the polarization consequences are discussed. The chapter concludes with discussions of scattering and synchrotron processes, followed by a matrix description of polarized radiative transfer.
