Abstract

Abstract To ensure high-speed and stable data transmission in 5G networks, it is essential to ensure the durability and safety of Active Antenna Units (AAUs). These devices must remain robust, undamaged, and safe for the surrounding environment when installed at elevated heights above the ground. This study presents an optimized design solution for 5G integrated antenna systems to reduce wind load resistance. This research focuses on determining the optimal antenna housing with chamfered edges that significantly reduces the wind resistance acting on the device when installed at high altitudes. Through aerodynamic analysis and numerical simulations, this study confirmed that the optimal design of the front cover, with a chamfer length of 30 mm and an angle of 45°, achieved a 33% reduction in drag force compared to the design without a chamfer. The new design was validated under various wind direction conditions. This solution is necessary for the next generation of AAUs with larger dimensions due to the high number of transmit and receive channels. It would eliminate infrastructure damage under strong wind conditions and enhance the device’s safety in operation.
