Techno-economic analysis with UPQC in mesh distribution networks with optimal allocations of renewable-based DGs
Abstract
Abstract The electrical distribution network needs to be reconfigured more carefully due to steadily rising power demand and increased greenhouse gas emissions, necessitating the deployment of renewable-based distributed energy resources. Reconfiguring raises several concerns, including increased line losses, voltage variation, and other power quality issues. To address these problems, D-FACTS devices play a critical role in the era of modern electronic devices. This work tackles the issues discussed above and expands on the main studies. (i) The analysis of mesh distribution network with reconfiguration; (ii) Allocation of DGs, such as solar and wind, optimally to benefit the environment; (iii) Deployment of UPQC within the renewable-integrated mesh distribution network; and (iv) techno-economic analysis for various load models will be conducted for each objective. The authors analysed the IEEE-33 and 69-bus mesh distribution networks to evaluate the feasibility of these goals. According to the findings, the combination of DG1+DG2, UPQC, and network reconfiguration considerably improves the overall voltage profile by 85% and 76.33%, real power losses by 79.5% and 92.8%, and reactive power losses by 68% and 88% compared with the basic scenario of IEEE-33 and 69-bus mesh distribution networks, respectively.
