Optimal integration of PVDG and DSTATCOM in distribution systems using SBAC-VAS-PSO algorithm
Abstract
Abstract This paper presents a new optimization algorithm for determining the optimal locations and sizes for integrating photovoltaic distributed generation systems (PVDGs) and distribution static synchronous compensators (DSTATCOMs) in radial distribution systems (RDS), with the aim of optimizing the Composite Objective Function (COF). This function considers both improving the voltage profile and reducing total active power losses (TAPL) and power loss reduction benefits (PLRB). This innovative research takes an approach based on a hybrid optimization method combining the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm enhanced with the sigmoid acceleration coefficient (SBAC) and the velocity pausing and adaptive strategy (VAS) algorithm. This methodology has been extensively tested on standard distribution network models, particularly the IEEE-33 and IEEE-69 bus systems, using MATLAB. The simulations demonstrated the efficiency of the proposed algorithm and its ability to optimally integrate PVDGs and DSTATCOMs simultaneously while maintaining the COF within acceptable limits. For the IEEE-33 bus test system, the TAPL values decreased to 11.928 kW, representing a 94.35% reduction. Total voltage deviation index (TVDI) values decreased by 91.39% to 0.156 p.u., and values for both voltage stability index (VSI) and Vmin improved to 0.964 p.u. and 0.992 p.u., respectively. The PLRB value decreased by 94.33% to 6270 $/year. Similarly, for the IEEE 69 bus test system, the TAPL and TVDI values decreased by 98.07% and 93.32%, respectively, reaching 4.336 kW and 0.125 p.u. The VSI and Vmin values improved to 0.964 p.u. and 0.992 p.u., respectively. The PLRB value decreased by 98.07% to reach 2280$/year.
