Abstract

Abstract In this study, a novel cascaded voltage-mode first-order phase rotator is realized, employing a single differential second generation current conveyor with a buffer and four grounded passive components. The proposed idea possesses the prominent characteristics of high input impedance and low output impedance, hence supports cascadability. In order to evaluate the real-world performance of the proposed structure, the mathematical analyses includes non-ideal and parasitic effects. In order to validate theoretical concepts, PSPICE simulations are performed with standard 180 nm CMOS process parameters. The experimental results further provide additional evidence for the effectiveness of the proposed approach and yield positive results in a physical setup evaluation. The possible realizations of proposed phase rotator using commercially available ICs make it integrable. The experimental validation presented in this work is carried out using discrete AD844 current feedback amplifiers. This implementation is intended to verify the functional correctness and feasibility of the proposed phase rotator using DCCII rather than to represent a fully integrated CMOS realization. The feasibility and practical viability of the proposed design are further confirmed through post-layout simulations performed in the Cadence Virtuoso environment, using the gpdk 180 nm CMOS process library and a ±1.25 V power supply.
