Abstract

Abstract This chapter explores how innovation manifests across various socio-technological platforms where social dynamics and technology intersect. It looks at the collaborative content creation on Wikipedia, the software development on GitHub, the emergence of shared vocabularies (folksonomies) on Del.icio.us and the patterns of cultural consumption on Last.fm. Despite the differing natures of these systems—ranging from active content creation to passive consumption—the underlying statistical laws of innovation remain consistent. These platforms function as modern laboratories for examining how people collectively investigate and expand the realm of possibilities.
