Abstract

Abstract Chapter 3 explores the study of different types of conflict in biodiversity settings, drawing from various academic disciplines such as peacebuilding, negotiation, and social psychology. The chapter introduces critical frameworks for understanding conflict, emphasizing that conflict typologies—such as actor involvement, issues at stake, and severity—guide the approach to resolution. It highlights the nonlinear patterns and cycles of conflicts, offering models for improving analysis. The chapter stresses the importance of stakeholder mapping and understanding power dynamics to assess relationships and potential alliances. By analysing conflicts within their broader social, economic, and environmental systems, the chapter provides tools for resolving conservation conflicts in a structured, practical manner.
