Abstract

Abstract Chapter 4 reviews the various types of conflict interventions, focusing on when third-party assistance is needed. It emphasizes that not all conflicts require external involvement, and with proper skills and insights, many day-to-day disputes can be resolved by the parties themselves. The chapter introduces the concept of third-party neutrals, who facilitate the resolution process without dictating the outcome. It explains the differences between judicial and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) approaches, highlighting that ADR methods—such as mediation and facilitation—are more suited for conservation conflicts. Additionally, the chapter discusses intervention phases, the roles of peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and different diplomatic tracks in conflict resolution. It underscores the importance of prevention through dialogue, good governance, and systemic efforts to avoid future conflicts.
