Abstract

Abstract Chapter 8 investigates Level 2 conflicts, where accumulated frustration, unresolved disputes, and mistrust between parties require third-party intervention. At this stage, relationships are damaged, making neutral mediation necessary to restore communication and foster solutions. The chapter distinguishes between facilitators, who guide group discussions, and mediators, who actively intervene in disputes to help parties find mutually acceptable outcomes. It explains the importance of choosing an impartial mediator, who must balance power dynamics, manage emotions, and create an empowering space for dialogue. Techniques like actor mapping, reframing positions, and shuttle diplomacy are explored as tools for mediators. Additionally, insider impartial mediators and middle influencers can help build trust in complex conflicts. The chapter emphasizes the need for creative thinking and patience to break deadlocks and find lasting solutions
