Abbreviations

I will use the following abbreviations for frequently cited books: Lotze’s works as well as their English translations of the main works available on Archive.org I give first the German, then the English pagination of translated works, ‘I’ and so on signify the volume. Translations of previously untranslated works are mine. When translating I followed Vladimir Nabakov in dismissing ‘the conventional notion that a translation “should read smoothly” and should not read like a translation [ . . . ] [T]he only virtue of a good translation is faithfulness and completeness.
