Abstract
When I saw the movie Tron in 1982, I was starting high school. I was so excited by 3D graphics, but I couldn’t find any books on how it was done (no Google, YouTube, or TikTok for 20–30 more years). So, I reverse-engineered what I saw using the trigonometry I’d learned in school. After a week, I made a 3D cube rotate on my little Commodore 64. I was ecstatic. I had no idea I could even make a living doing that. At an engineering-focused college, our main grounding in ethics and design came from reading Science Fiction. Civil engineers, doctors, and even lawyers received ethics training and later swore oaths in the ethical application of their fields to avoid harming people. But those of us who came of age with computers, 3D games, the Internet, virtual reality, and spatial computing had to figure it all out on our own. And we made some big mistakes.
