Abstract

Abstract This chapter explores memory development, focusing on its evolution and changes throughout life. It examines how the development of language, semantic knowledge, and cognitive skills improves encoding, retrieval, and problem-solving abilities. The chapter investigates various types of memory, including explicit and implicit memory, as well as the emergence of meta-memory as children mature. It also discusses the phenomenon of infantile amnesia and the implications of memory distortions, particularly in eyewitness testimony. Finally, the chapter addresses memory and ageing, highlighting how lifestyle, genetics, and brain health impact memory function in older adults.
