Abstract

Abstract Chapter 5 explores pedagogical strategies for teaching core qualitative data collection methods: interviews, focus groups, observation, and document analysis. This chapter provides guidance on how to tailor teaching for different audiences and course objectives, considering the range of familiarity that students might have with qualitative data collection and the goals of the course. Drawing on the authors’ own research experiences, the chapter offers ideas for classroom activities that help students reflect on both theoretical and applied aspects of different methods. The goal of this chapter is to provide a practical approach to teaching foundational qualitative methods that can be tailored to meet different instructional contexts.
