Abstract

Abstract Chapter 7 provides students with an appreciation for the role of the researcher in the multifaceted considerations associated with qualitative research and the frameworks to engage responsibly. The chapter underscores the essential integration of ethics and rigor throughout qualitative research courses, with attention to related concepts such as validity, quality, trustworthiness, and authenticity. The tools to assess and practice rigor, and to recognize when the process and the practice of ethical research require oversight from institutional review boards and community advisory boards, are reviewed through examples, through classroom exercises, and by drawing from the literature.
