Abstract

Abstract The vast majority of known poets in this repertory were nobility. This chapter discusses the likelihood that most composers were their own poets and the likelihood that many of the poets were women. Text ascriptions in the musical sources are considered. New ascriptions are made to Alain Chartier. The English poems of Charles d’Orléans are established as his own work, in many cases written earlier than the French versions. The chapter reviews the evidence that the composer Jean Molinet was the famous poet and chronicler. It discussed the matter of Gilles Joye and the Florentine poet Rosello Roselli and the matter of Leonardo Giustinian and music. The names of possible poets may be derived from acrostics.
