Abstract

Abstract Since French songs have taken up the lion’s portion of this book, the section on them can be brief, throwing focus on the seriously sad shortage of French songbooks before about 1460; and the same is the case with French poetry sources. But the situation is even worse with manuscripts of French church music in the fifteenth century. The section ‘Conclusions’ reflects on the passage of time between the first serious drafts of this book and the present day, how much has changed in terms of our access to the sources and the literature. It also reflects on how the work of others has changed the landscape around this repertory.
