Conclusion

Abstract The conclusion traces the continuing influence of Marcelle Auclair and Marcelle Ségal. Recent articles paid homage to each of them. In a 2022 issue celebrating its 85th anniversary Marie Claire applauded Auclair for creating a magazine that responded to women’s desire for emancipation. In 2023, a column in Le Nouvel Observatoire hailed Ségal as the guardian angel of a “well-tempered feminism.” A review of the current content of Elle and Marie-Claire confirms that both magazines continue to offer advice, engage in dialogue with their readers, and cover feminist issues. Through their influence on women’s magazines and dialogue with their readers, Ségal and Auclair contributed to changing ideas on gender that built bridges to feminism.
