Abstract

Abstract This chapter argues for how the interrelated web of claims—that is, religion is unique and special interpretive methods are therefore needed for its study in privileged institutional settings—is particularly well exemplified in the work of Mircea Eliade (among others), a once prominent scholar understood here not as either originating or causing this discourse but, rather, as one of its foremost representatives.
