Conclusion
Abstract
Abstract The Conclusion briefly summarizes the apparent contradictions that have emerged throughout the book in Aldington’s literary persona, his poetry, and the authorial voice he assumed in his novels. Rob Hawkes has suggested the term ‘misfit moderns’ for writers of the 1910s and 1920s who operate through ‘a form of in-betweenness’ (2012: 5); the Conclusion argues that this term offers a useful lens through which to view Aldington’s position in modern literary history. It recapitulates the importance of Hellenism and of the time Aldington and H.D. spent on Capri in 1913 for his work throughout his life.
