Abstract

Abstract The Appendix provides the full text of two previously unpublished letters that Aldington wrote in Latin to his friend F. S. Flint in 1921, in which he suggests that the two of them should improve their Latin by writing to one another in that language. Aldington also praises specific Latin authors as models to follow, discusses works of Latin literature (especially the letters of Pliny the Younger) that he proposes to lend Flint, and comments on an article in The Times that he thought might have been directed against himself and Flint. The Appendix provides a translation of the Latin text and some explanatory notes.
