Bearings
Abstract
Abstract Heaney took bearings throughout his life, and some of his most important coordinates were set in context of his friendship with other artists and writers. This chapter examines the paintings, artworks, and books by other writers that shaped Heaney’s later poetry. It gives a sense of the breadth of Heaney’s social and cultural attachments, and builds out the panoramas of the landscape chapter into a map of human relations across time and place.
