Abstract

Abstract The afterword looks at the period after Heaney’s death until the present, looking at some of the ways his poetry continues to influence how we think about art, and about Ireland. It suggests some of the ways we might read Heaney in the future, and how his poetry might speak to planetary issues like climate change and political instability. It returns at the end to the places Heaney valued, with a reflection on the power of illumination in his writing.
