Where evidence becomes action
Abstract
Let us welcome March with the European Heart Journal: Acute Cardiovascular Care (EHJ-ACVC), the journal where evidence becomes action, research is translated into clinical practice, questions lead to new insights, and ideas contribute to improved patient outcomes-advancing acute cardiac and intensive care worldwide. In acute myocardial infarction, this issue highlights the clinical value of simple, reproducible echocardiographic markers for early detection of left ventricular thrombus, reinforcing the central role of rapid risk stratification in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) care and building on prior studies that have underscored the incidence, predictors, and imaging strategies for post-infarction thrombus.1,2 In ventricular arrhythmia, practical frameworks are presented to guide management and improve outcomes, complemented by a perspective plus on targeted potassium management to reduce arrhythmia burden, extending the journal’s work on metabolic optimization and arrhythmia prevention.3,4 Takotsubo syndrome is explored with a focus on prognostic and triage tools to identify patients requiring intensified monitoring, and the potential role of beta-blockers to improve outcomes, consistent with prior EHJ-ACVC analyses of risk and therapy.5–9 Acute heart failure management is examined through real-world treatment patterns, highlighting variability and the need for individualized care, echoing earlier discussions in the journal.10–17 Finally, the educational paper emphasizes structured peer support in the intensive care unit (ICU) to foster psychological safety, resilience, and team performance, reinforcing EHJ-ACVC’s growing focus on clinician well-being as integral to patient care.18
