Planning
Abstract
This chapter considers the primary responsibility of leaders to plan. It highlights how inefficiency and ineffectiveness caused by a waste of effort and resources can result in a poor public reaction. Thus, good planning is important because it offers a sense of direction and purpose with clear outcomes. Moreover, good planning takes account of the risks involved, resources required, obstacles to be overcome and timescale. The chapter discusses several planning considerations that involve strategic and tactical plans, which entail risks and SMART objectives. Since plans rarely go without a hitch, leaders must manage and mitigate risks at the outset.
