Abstract

This chapter focuses on interpersonal skills to explore these basic communications building blocks. It defines interpersonal skills as how people use their oral skills to communicate in a positive and effective way with other people. Several things stand in the way of good communication, which include a poor grasp and use of important interpersonal skills and a failure to prepare for important conversations. First-class communication often involves empathy, words, body language, voice tone, listening, note-taking, questioning, silence, clarifying and summarising. The chapter looks into how a leader can improve their interpersonal skills, such as by understanding the complexity of language and the importance of communication.
