Abstract

This chapter discusses modes of behaviour and transactional analysis under the notion of communication. The transactional analysis offers an understanding of how people adopt and modify their behaviour accordingly, which is a vital skill complementary to interpersonal and assertiveness skills. The chapter notes that transactional analysis should be used as a means to develop relationships, not damage them through calculated manipulation. A leader will develop their transactional analysis skills through constant use and critical self-analysis of their performance, which will also benefit from honest feedback from others. The chapter considers the process of transactional analysis explained within a police context.
