Self-development for the leader and encouraging leadership skills in others
Abstract
This chapter discusses a leadership self-development programme. It explains that the programme is expected to help with the practical implementation of the checklists (toolkit) and the opportunity to learn from hands-on experience. To get the best out of the educational process, a sergeant or inspector leader needs to take into account how people learn and how they themselves learn. The chapter then provides an overview of Kolb’s Learning Cycle and Honey and Mumford’s learning styles while considering the advantages of keeping a learning log. It cites that sergeant and inspector leaders should endeavour to develop the leadership potential of all team members.
