Abstract

Abstract This chapter introduces the book’s focus on intangible property and its legal treatment, specifically the process of assignment, which refers to the transfer of intangible property. Unlike tangible property, intangible property cannot be physically possessed, making its transfer more abstract and legally complex. The chapter highlights the distinction between tangible and intangible property and explains the unique processes of creation, transfer, and recovery of intangible assets. It also discusses the rights associated with intangible property, such as ownership, enforcement, and the ability to exclude or compel actions from others. Finally, the chapter explores the differences between bilateral and multilateral choses in action, laying the foundation for a more detailed examination of the legal principles governing intangible assets.
