Abstract

Abstract This chapter appraises the prediction of perioperative myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest (MICA) risk using the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database. This was a retrospective study conducted across 183 US hospitals, analyzing over 450,000 patients to develop and validate a model for predicting MICA risk. The model includes variables such as surgery type, age, creatinine levels, functional status, and the American Society of Anesthesia class. The chapter highlights the importance of combining the MICA risk model with others to ensure a comprehensive assessment of perioperative cardiac risk.
