Integrating stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy into the multidisciplinary management of recurrent colorectal cancer
Abstract
Abstract Stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy is increasingly used in colorectal cancer for an increasing number of indications. This chapter discusses the evolution of SABR and how it differs from standard radiotherapy. It presents the technical considerations in different organs and offer a summary of the patient’s pathway through the radiation department. The chapter discusses the evidence base behind SABR for oligometastatic-directed therapy and looks at literature from other tumour types, comparing SABR to other treatment modalities. The authors touch on the more novel indications including locally recurrent rectal cancer, oligoprogressive, oligoresistant, or oligopersistent disease and discuss the potential of novel radiotherapy delivery techniques such as MR Linac and proton beam delivery.
