Foreword
Abstract
I am a pediatrician with 52 years of experience as a pediatric clinician, educator, researcher, administrator, and editor. As such, I strongly believe that this well-written and referenced book by Stewart Einfeld and Michael McDowell with consultation from Dr. Adrian Sandler should be read by any clinician and perhaps others who care for children. Depending on the country, that might include pediatricians, family medicine physicians, general practitioners, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and possibly others. The information provided by a child and adolescent psychiatrist and a developmental pediatrician with input from a consultant behavioural and developmental pediatrician is very important for anyone caring for children. A significant proportion of all children everywhere have developmental and/or behavioural problems. These problems can be the result of birth (difficult deliveries; ingestion of alcohol, drugs, or other toxins by the mother; genetics, etc.); environmental (poor parenting, bullying, exposure to toxins such as lead, etc.), or other problems.
