Abstract

Abstract The preceding chapters outline a set of principles and practices for paediatricians dealing with problem behaviour in children with disability. Across these chapters we have mapped the concepts of clinical decision making for example cases. In this chapter we summarize the ‘take home’ messages from these and add a further set of cases with discussion. These latter cases focus on children with more severe disability, for whom behaviour management can be slow and challenging. Robbie, aged 10, has moderate intellectual disability. Lydia is a 5-year-old wheelchair-dependent girl with cerebral palsy, anxiety, and relatively well-preserved cognition. Andy, aged 6, is an essentially non-verbal boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder and severe intellectual disability.
