Conversion to Thoracotomy and the “Three Strikes Rule”
Abstract
Abstract This chapter addresses the reproducible and safe approaches described in the book and the fact that surgeons should feel comfortable converting to thoracotomy to avoid intraoperative hazards, to reduce time on the table, and to limit postoperative morbidity. The “Three Strikes Rule” refers to patients who have three features from a list of high-risk features. If a patient has accumulated three of the features on the list, strong consideration should be made to perform a thoracotomy.
