Abstract

Abstract Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) has an incidence of about 1 in 2500 live births in the Western world. CDH is a defect in the fetal diaphragm, which allows the contents of the abdominal cavity to protrude into the thoracic cavity. This chapter covers patho-embryology, antenatal diagnosis, and associated anomalies, as well as predicting outcome. It also includes discussion about newborn management, detailing postnatal diagnosis, initial stabilization, surgery, and morbidity.
