Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders
Abstract
Abstract The temporomandibular joint surgery section provides for the reader descriptions of and commentary on landmark papers covering the topics of classification of TMJ disorders, arthroscopic management, TMJ replacement, ankylosis, and recurrent dislocation. It looks at the symptoms of TMJ, which include clicking/popping sounds and pain/limitation on mandibular movements, as well as the classic predisposing factors to TMJ, which include emotional stress, parafunctional habits, malocclusion, and trauma. It also discusses and compares clinical outcomes across various surgical methods of managing TMJ internal derangement, including open surgery (OS), arthroscopic surgery (AS), and arthroscopic lysis and lavage (ALL). It also looks at the use of Botox injections and the Dautrey procedure.
