Paediatric Craniofacial Surgery
Abstract
Abstract The paediatric craniofacial surgery section provides for the reader both descriptions of and commentary on landmark papers covering the topic of paediatric craniofacial surgery. Specifically it looks at papilloedema as an indicator of raised intracranial pressure in craniosynostosis (and that such an increased risk of elevated intracranial pressure can lead to optic atrophy and blindness), intracranial pressure in craniosynostosis, early management of craniosynostosis (including the use of invasive intraparenchymal (Camino) monitoring and the de Rougemont method, involving an epidural sensor connected to an extracranial transducer), cranial vault remodelling, distraction osteogenesis, and the role played by distraction osteogenesis in mandibular hypoplasia.
