Abstract

Abstract This section covers the physiology knowledge required for the MRCEM Primary examination. The section covers basic cellular structure and physiology, as well as physiology of the main organ systems, as outlined within the RCEM Basic Sciences syllabus: respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, renal, and endocrine systems. The curricular content focuses on physiology with a clinical application to Emergency Medicine practice. The examination thus assesses physiology knowledge in an applied way. One third of the examination questions (60 questions) will relate to physiology. All the information in this section of the book has been laid out by system, as presented in the syllabus.
