Abstract

Abstract This chapter provides the reader with a review of the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis, management, and prevention of hepatitis A, B, and C. It goes on to discuss the routes of transmission, incubation periods, and complications for each of the viruses. Detailed coverage is given to hepatitis B serology, the transition from acute to chronic infection, and associated risks such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Diagnostic approaches, including serological markers, are outlined alongside treatment strategies, prevention measures, and vaccination. All of the information maps to the RCEM Basic Sciences syllabus, making it relevant to Emergency Medicine practice and the examination.
