Abstract

Abstract This chapter provides the reader with a summary of the key haematological topics relevant to Emergency Medicine. It begins by covering the classification, causes, and investigation of anaemia. It then looks at the types and features of leukaemia, as well as the classification and management of lymphoma and myeloma. It goes on to discuss platelet disorders, inherited and acquired coagulation disorders, and thrombophilia. Mechanisms, clinical features, and relevant investigations are explained, with emphasis on acute presentations and principles of management. All of the information maps to the RCEM Basic Sciences syllabus, making it relevant to Emergency Medicine practice and the examination.
