Abstract

Abstract The chapter covers an introduction to the basic concepts of clinical neurophysiology, including the approach to the patient. It outlines the fundamental electronics (including circuits, capacitors, filters, amplifiers and grounding) as well as signal processing necessary to understand the technological challenges posed by procedures described in later chapters. It also covers a fundamental understanding of the cellular and physiological processes in the context of electroencephalograms and neuromuscular studies, including membrane potentials and action potentials. General principles of data interpretation are covered, including report writing as well as reference data collection and interpretation.
