Abstract

Abstract This chapter covers the specific electroencephalography (EEG) patterns found in neonatal and paediatric EEGs. Parallels and distinctions are drawn with adult recordings. Different age groups are compared. The maturation and the evolution with age of the cortical EEG are discussed to provide a deeper understanding of interpretation of recordings as well as the spectrum of normal and abnormal findings. Cerebral function monitoring and amplitude integrated EEG are covered along with their interpretation and relevance in neonatal recordings. Specific considerations are covered for recordings, reports and differential diagnoses (e.g. epilepsy mimics) in neonatal and paediatric patients.
