Abstract

Abstract This chapter starts by covering the abnormal EEG patterns and common cases encountered in the epilepsy clinic before addressing abnormal EEG patterns in brain function monitoring and disorders of consciousness (Chapters 11 and 14–16 cover additional, more specialised, EEG uses). Seizure types and epilepsy syndromes are described according to the most recent International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) classification (2017) and the 2024 update. Key brain regions along with associated functions and semiology are explained in order to provide a deeper understanding of localisation and epilepsy surgery.
