Abstract

Abstract Key Points: • The respiratory compensation point (RCP) is seen when acidaemia develops in the later stages of a CPET and drives ventilation. • The RCP can be seen on the VE/VCO2 and VeqCO2 plots. • The RCP arises later in a CPET than the AT. • The presence of a clear RCP implies a pretty maximal effort by the subject. • When lung disease limits exercise, there is no RCP.
